I struggled to find a dress at first, however I hired mine from Wish Want Wear (find my dress here) for £55. I was so happy with it - it was very different to everyone else's and I know that if I bought a dress, then I would probably never wear it again. The dresses from WWW are all designer as well, so hiring this gave me the chance to wear a dress worth £375.
My clutch is from Accessorize (a good shout if you need a bag, although not everyone brought one at my prom.)
I also wore flat sandals - at first some of friends looked at me weirdly that I wasn't wearing heels, but by the end of the night everyone's feet were dying and I was still going strong! I knew I would look silly trying to walk around to sky-high heels, and this way I know I'll wear my shoes again.
I had my nails done in Jessica 'Sugar Coated Strawberry' - with my dress I needed a bright colour to stand out against it, and I had them done at a local beauty salon. I enjoyed having someone else do my nails as I'm a bit rubbish at them because I'm so impatient!
I also had my hair done at a local salon, and then when I got ready at a friend's house her older sister (thanks Molly!) curled my hair a little more.
I would say that getting ready at a friend's house makes all the difference - it makes you less nervous and enhances the girly experience of getting ready! I did have a date aswell, but all I'd say about that is make sure you go with someone (if you want to take someone, that is) that you're good friends with/that you're totally comfortable with.
